Dacia Of The Week | New Dacia Sandero Stepway

For our fourth and final instalment of Dacia of the Week, we’re taking a closer look at the new Dacia Sandero Stepway, which adds a touch of rugged off-road presence to the Sandero hatch.
If you’re intrigued by the affordability and style of the Dacia Sandero hatchback but are in the market for something a little more rugged, the Sandero Stepway could be perfect for you. It still boasts a low purchase price, a spacious interior and intuitive dashboard, but it also benefits from a raised ride height and an improved view of the road, a scattering of SUV styling and a more upmarket feel.
Sitting between a hatchback and a small SUV, the Dacia Sandero Stepway is more capable of taking on bumpy terrain than your average compact car – and it’s available in either incredibly value entry-level Ambience trim or top-spec Laureate trim, which brings with it much more equipment but still retains excellent value.

Select the right Sandero Stepway for you

Two engine choices are available too – both offer 89bhp and both are hooked up to a five-speed manual transmission. And the differences? Well, the 0.9-litre, three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine (known as the TCe) claims 55.4mpg and 115g/km CO2 emissions, and the 1.5-litre diesel engine (the dCi) emits just 98g/km CO2 and can achieve 74.3mpg. The choice is yours!
Whichever you choose, this rugged-looking, front-wheel drive Dacia features plastic wheel arch extensions and sills, chrome roof bars and all-season tyres for extra grip, as well as additional ground clearance thanks to the 100mm increase in ride height. This jacked-up suspension also enhances the Sandero Stepway’s ride comfort, absorbing bumps well. You get body-coloured door mirrors and bumpers too, and stylish plastic wheel covers that really do look like alloys from afar.
As the Sandero Stepway is based on the Sandero hatchback, they’re pretty much the same on the inside even though they have many exterior differences – the dashboard layout is the same, intuitively organised, and switches are robust and durable. The driving position is comfortable too, with the pedals well-placed, and there’s plenty of room for five adults in the spacious cabin – and their bags too, thanks to the large boot. Because it’s so spacious, it’s impressively practical, much more so than its competitors – especially in its affordable price bracket.
Because Dacia’s known for its no-frills approach, you’d be forgiven for thinking the Sandero Stepway doesn’t come with much tech – but you’d be wrong. This cracking car comes with Bluetooth®, USB and aux connections as standard and if you opt for Laureate trim, you can even get a seven-inch touchscreen sat-nav system.
Now you’ve had the full facts on our four favourite Dacia models, which one takes your top spot? Does the smart, stylish Sandero Stepway have the edge? At Dacia Retail, we’d love to hear so get in touch to let us know!
